Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree of English literature. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In the following two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Mitchell was promoted to the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist and anchor of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of a panel discussion at the 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her contribution in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. She has covered several notable reports over time, including fiscal reform, the budget and an investigation into the Iran Contra saga. She travelled frequently along with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
